Radiofrequency Thermocoagulation

Another treatment for the SI joint is a radiofrequency thermocoagulation, or simply just burning the nerves that innervate the SI joint. We can accomplish this, again, in the safety of the operating room, under sedation, under fluoroscopic guidance, so we can see exactly where the needles are being placed. After proper placement of the needles, that is attached to a computer and we are able to lesion the nerve for about 90 seconds, and that should last a patient for pain control up to 6 to 8 months.
