Intrarticular Knee Injections
Intra-articular knee injections are used to treat chronic and acute knee pain. They come in also two varieties. One variety is just to utilize steroid injections in the office with local anesthetic. Simple procedure, takes less than one or two minutes, and the patient can go home. In terms of the second option, which is called viscosupplementation, is actually where we place artificial joint fluid into the knee and that takes up to 3 to 5 visits depending on the type of medication we use. Both are very effective at controlling pain, we find with viscosupplementation that those patients are able to have pain relief for up to 8 months.
