Epidermal Nerve Fiber Density Testing
Epidermal nerve fiber density testing is employed to diagnose patients who have presumed peripheral neuropathy or a peripheral neuropathy from some other cause such as radiation therapy or chemotherapy. In this procedure we are able to take a small segment of skin from the ankle of the patient and look at that under microscopic evaluation to determine exactly how severe the condition is. This will help guide future therapy and treatments so that the patient is more able to control their pain symptoms and get back to a normal life.
