Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injections

Like a transforaminal epidural steroid injection we would use really to treat somebody’s leg pain, primarily, versus back. You would probably get some back pain relief also, but surgeons often ask us to do that procedure prior to consideration of surgery. So if we can get your pain under control with a transforaminal epidural steroid injection, which is targeted dorsal root ganglion area of the nerve that has all of the pain fibers in it and we can alleviate some of the inflammation of that area, there may be no need to have surgery. So, maybe one or two injections per year, no more than three per year, due to the side effects of steroids, but again, should be able to treat the leg pain and prevent someone from having surgery.
